An interesting point:

Britain is a tiny island - the Usa has single states bigger, and back then it was 60% forest... It's no suprise so many nations ruled it's soil.

Or did you mean Normans in America?

If I recall, the brits didn't send Mr. Columbus on his voyage, they turned him down

It was the Spanish who sent Columbus on his way
